Old Ghost Road

The Old Ghost road goes from the Lyell Camping Ground in the Upper Buller Gorge across the open tussock tops of the Lyell Range and down the Mokihinui River Gorge to Seddonville out on the West Coast. For now it’s a there and back ride from either end.  This is part of the National cycleway and is still under construction.

From the Lyell Camping ground the track is a nice gradual climb of approximatley 18km up through impressive Beech forect to the Lyell Saddle Hut. From here it continues a further 8kms or so up above the bush line to great views of the surrounding area. The last remaining 3kms to Ghost Lake Hut is not yet finished.

From Seddonville the track is a mostly gradual climb up a long the Mokihinui Gorge with great views to the river below.
